SKYWARN
Level 1:
This is the basic weather observation training required to remain active in the program, and for knowledgeable
severe weather observation. Learn the definitions of severe weather and how to report it. See actual pictures and video of
tornadoes and related sever weather, Information is also provided on sever weather safety and preparedness. Choose from a
wide variety of educational materials to aid in your study. We make no demands of observers – just attend training,
watch as you are able, stay in a safe location and report sever weather observed – it is that simple! This training
enables spotters to observe and report from any part of the region. All classes are taught by a competent
trained instructor leading to observer certification.
SKYWARN Level 2:
This
advanced class builds upon the Level 1 class providing more thorough training through visual aids. It is offered for those
seeking more information and additional in-depth training. Information is provided on interpreting computerized forecasting
information, convective outlooks, and identifying various cloud formations. Participants are encouraged
to attend a Level 1 SKYWARN class first.
